# Create unassigned grid cards

The maximum number of grid cards that you can create at one time is your user entitlement quantity multiplied by 3 or 100,000, whichever is lower. If you do not have any user entitlements or your entitlements have expired, you cannot generate any grid cards.

Use this procedure to create unassigned grid cards.

Before you generate cards, decide whether these cards should be available to all eligible administrators or restricted to specific groups. Group assignment at generation time can help control who can view and assign those cards later.

Before you start, confirm the following:

- Your account has active user entitlements.
- You know how many cards you need to generate in this batch.
- You know whether group restrictions are required for administrator access.

### Create unassigned grid cards

1. Click Menu icon **>** **Resources > Grid Card**. The **Grid Cards** page appears.

2. Click the **Unassigned Grid Cards** tab. The **Unassigned Grid Cards** page appears.

3. Click Circle Plus icon. A drop-down list appears.

4. Select **Generate** from the drop-down list to generate a series of unassigned grid cards. The **Unassigned Grid Card Generation** dialog box appears.

5. In the **Total Number of Grid Cards to Create** field, enter the number of grid cards you want to generate.

6. Optional. To assign the grid card to one or more groups, do the following:

   1. Select the group from the **Select Groups for Grid** drop-down list.
   2. Repeat the previous step to add more groups.

7. Click **Submit**. The grid cards appear on the **Grid Cards** page.

## Validate the result

After you submit, verify the following:

1. The new grid card rows appear in the **Unassigned Grid Cards** list.
2. The number of generated cards matches the requested amount.
3. If you applied group restrictions, the expected groups are shown for the generated cards.

note

You can also import unassigned grid cards in bulk. See [Import grid cards](/docs/perform-bulk-operations/bulk-import-operations/import-grid-cards.md) for more information.
