# Activate a Google authenticator

Use this procedure to assign and activate Google Authenticator for a user. Before you begin, ensure the user has access to a mobile device with a Google Authenticator application installed.

note

If the user does not have an email address, you cannot send an activation email. The user must activate Google Authenticator from the User Portal.

### Assign a Google authenticator to a user

1. Click Menu icon **>** **Members > Users**. The **Users List** page appears.
2. Click the User ID of the user. The **User Details** page appears.
3. Click the **Authenticators** tab. The **Authenticators** page appears.
4. Click Circle Plus icon. A drop-down list of authenticators appears.
5. Select **Google Authenticator**. Google Authenticator appears in the user's list of authenticators.
6. Click Ellipsis Vertical icon to the right of the **Google Authenticator** that you want to activate. A drop-down list appears.
7. If the user has an email address, do the following:
8. Click Square icon **Activate**. The **Activate Smart Token** dialog box appears.
9. Click **OK**. IDaaS sends the user an email with a QR code and activation instructions.

note

Click Ellipsis Vertical icon and select **Re-Activate** to send another activation email if the first email was not received or the token was not activated before the activation expiry.

## Validate your changes

After assigning and activating Google Authenticator, validate the result.

1. Confirm Google Authenticator appears in the user's authenticator list.
2. Confirm the user receives the activation email with a QR code.
3. Confirm the user can complete activation and use Google Authenticator for sign-in.
