# Configure User Portal policies

Configure core User Portal settings, including the default landing tab, custom user guide URL, and step-up authentication delivery behavior.

## Set user portal configurations

1. Click Menu icon **>** **Policies > User Portal**. The **User Portal** **page** appears.
2. Click **User Portal**. The **User Portal Configuration** page appears.
3. From the **Default Tab** drop-down list, select the landing page default tab the user sees when they log in to their User portal.
4. If available, in the **Custom User Guide Documentation** field, enter the URL for the User Portal custom user guide documentation.
5. Configure authenticator delivery for **Step-up Authentication**. Step-up authentication is enabled with a resource rule defined for the User Portal. When enabled, step-up authentication requires a user to authenticate before they can change their profile information and add authenticators. See [Edit User Profile resource rule](/docs/authentication-and-security/create-and-manage-resource-rules/edit-user-profile-resource-rule.md) for more information.
   1. Set the **Edit Profile Session Timeout (minutes)** to set the amount of time before the edit profile session times out.
   2. Select the email attributes that receive the authenticator, as follows:
      1. Select **Deliver to All Email Attributes** to send the authenticator to all email addresses in the user profile.
      2. If you deselect this feature, do the following:
         1. Select to send the authenticator only to the selected email addresses.
         2. Select **Deliver to User-Defined Email Attributes** to send the authenticator only to user-defined email addresses in the user profile.
   3. Select the SMS attributes that receive the authenticator, as follows:
      1. Select **Deliver to All SMS Attributes** to send the authenticator to all SMS attributes in the user profile.
      2. If you deselect this feature, do the following:
